Located between Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn Reservoir, and nestled among the Pineywoods, you will find San Augustine County. San Augustine County is among a network of State and Federal highways and is within easy access of many major metropolitan areas.  Early settlers came into San Augustine County on the Old San Antonio Road, also known as “El Camino Real de los Tejas”, now a designated National Historic Trail.

 

San Augustine, the county seat, is one of Texas' oldest cities, dating back to early Indian days.  San Augustine is the home of the first university, churches of all denominations, and is the first American settlement in Texas. The abundant history in our area is evident in over 50 recorded Texas Historical Landmark homes and sites.

 

The Town of Broaddus, also occupies San Augustine County.  The town of Broaddus is the Gateway to Lake Sam Rayburn, one of the most popular recreation areas in East Texas.  Offering information, camping areas on the lake, guide services, motels and restaurants, Broaddus is a must stop for vacationers and fishermen.
